setting your goal

Some of you have already started on thinking about what your goal will be. You're right on track. Some of you have thought about walking, taking classes at a gym, joining a gym, stretching, and even having something to work toward. Here is a little guide to assist you in making your goal.

MAKE IT CHALLENGING:
Try something you haven't tried before. If you take classes, try a new class. Do a little bit more. If you run 5 miles a week then go for 7.

MAKE IT DOABLE:
The idea is to set yourself up for success. Take it slowly and be careful not to do too much too quickly. If you currently don't do any exercise, then try going out for a 10 minute walk 3 x's/week then you can add more minutes the following week.

MAKE IT MEASUREABLE:
This is about being specific and putting numbers to what you're doing. You can do 1 yoga class/wk; run 10 miles/wk; stretch ten minutes in a day.

MAKE IT REGULAR:
Choose activities that you can do at least three times a week. This way you will really feel the difference and get into a routine. The activities can vary (2 runs, 1 cycling class). If you simply just do one walk a week, for example, it will be difficult to get into a routine.

MAKE IT A PLAN:
When you look at your month, know the routines you already have and plan in your workouts.

MAKE IT FLEXIBLE:
Let's say your plan is to do 1 yoga class and 2 walks a week, choose 2 potential classes you can go to so if you simply can't make one then you have another in the week that you can go to. Allow for some room to shift things around as needed.

That's it for now. Sound good? Please, post any other suggestions or comments :)
